Northern Sumatra’s landscape is defined by the volcanic activity of the Karo Highlands and the ancient rainforests of Gunung Leuser National Park. This selection features Mount Sibayak, an accessible stratovolcano with active steam vents, and the volatile Mount Sinabung. Within the dense canopy, the route includes the dual-toned waters of Air Terjun Dua Warna, colored by sulfur and phosphorus, and the 30-meter Sikulikap waterfall. The region serves as a critical habitat for Sumatran orangutans and includes unique geological formations like the limestone Ship Cave.

Sibayak

Mount Sibayak is a stratovolcano overlooking the town of Berastagi in northern Sumatra, Indonesia.

Gunung Sinabung

An active stratovolcano that resumed activity in 2010 after centuries of dormancy. It is one of Indonesia’s most volatile peaks, located in the Karo plateau.

Gunung Buluh

A mountain peak situated within the rugged terrain of the Gunung Leuser National Park ecosystem.

Sikulikap park & waterfall

A 30-meter waterfall located in the Karo Highlands. The surrounding cliffs are frequently used for rock climbing within the tropical rainforest habitat.

Two Colour Waterfall

Also known as Air Terjun Dua Warna, this site features distinct light blue and grayish-white water colors caused by high phosphorus and sulfur content.

East Peak

A high point on the crater rim of Mount Sibayak, providing a vantage point over the active fumaroles and the town of Berastagi.

Puncak

A viewpoint located within the mountainous region of North Sumatra, offering vistas of the surrounding jungle canopy.

Ship Cave

Locally known as Gua Kapal, this limestone cave features interior rock formations that resemble the hull of a ship.

Gunung Leuser

One of the highest peaks in the region and the namesake of the Gunung Leuser National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and critical biosphere.
