Sacred Sites

Haifa’s religious landscape reflects its history as a multicultural port city and a center for diverse faiths. This collection includes the Shrine of the Bab, a Baha'i landmark with a golden dome and terraced gardens on Mount Carmel. The list also features the Ahmadiyya community’s Mahmood Mosque in Kababir, the historic St. Louis the King Maronite Cathedral, and several Orthodox and Catholic churches. These sites represent the coexistence of Baha'i, Muslim, Christian, and Jewish communities across the city's coastal and mountain neighborhoods.

A

Shrine of the Bab

A UNESCO World Heritage site and the second holiest site in the Baha'i faith. The structure is defined by its 40-meter-high golden dome and eighteen terraced gardens that stretch down the northern slope of Mount Carmel.

Mahmood Mosque, Haifa

Mahmood Mosque is a mosque in Kababir, Haifa, Israel. It was built by the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in the late 1970s.

St. Louis the King Cathedral

This Maronite Catholic cathedral, located near Paris Square, was constructed in the late 19th century. It serves as the primary place of worship for Haifa's Maronite community and features traditional Levantine ecclesiastical architecture.

Elias Russian church

A Russian Orthodox church on Mount Carmel dedicated to the Prophet Elijah. It serves the local Russian-speaking Orthodox population and features traditional Eastern Orthodox architectural elements.

St. Joseph's Church

A Roman Catholic church in the downtown area, managed by the Carmelite Order. The current building was completed in the 1950s to serve the Latin parish of Haifa.

Saint Luke Church

An Anglican church founded in 1899. The building is designed in a Neo-Gothic style and functions as part of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem.

Al-Istiqlal Mosque

Built in the 1920s, this is the largest mosque in Haifa. It is located in the Wadi Salib neighborhood and is historically associated with Izz ad-Din al-Qassam.
