Hidden Monuments & Caves

The Haifa District contains a diverse array of historical and spiritual sites, from the prehistoric Kebara Cave to sacred grottoes on Mount Carmel. This collection highlights significant landmarks including the burial site of Baron de Rothschild at Ramat HaNadiv, the bronze statue of Alexander Zayid overlooking the Jezreel Valley, and dedicated military memorials for the Nahal Brigade, Border Police, and Druze soldiers. These sites reflect the region's complex layers of archaeological heritage, religious tradition, and modern history.

Elijah's Cave

A sacred grotto on Mount Carmel believed to have been used by the Prophet Elijah. It serves as a significant pilgrimage site for Jews, Christians, Muslims, and Druze.

Alexander Zayid

A bronze equestrian statue by David Polus commemorating the founder of the Hashomer defense organization. It stands on a hilltop overlooking the Jezreel Valley near Beit She'arim.

Ramat HaNadiv - Baron's grave

The crypt and burial site of Baron Edmond de Rothschild and his wife Adelaide, situated within the meticulously landscaped gardens of the Ramat HaNadiv nature park.

Wilhelm II Obelisk

A stone monument in Haifa marking the 1898 visit of German Emperor Wilhelm II and Empress Augusta Victoria. The site offers panoramic views of Haifa Bay.

Statue of Elijah

Located at the Muhraka Carmelite Monastery, this statue depicts the prophet Elijah's biblical confrontation with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel.

Mishmar HaGvul

The official national memorial and heritage center for Israel’s Border Police, designed by architect Yehiel Arad and inaugurated in 1980.

Gunnery corp memorial

Known as Beit HaTotchan, this Zichron Ya’akov museum and memorial displays historical artillery pieces and commemorates the fallen soldiers of the Israeli Artillery Corps.
