Haugesund Essentials

Haugesund’s identity is rooted in its royal Viking heritage and maritime history. Haraldstøtta

Erected in 1872 to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the Battle of Hafrsfjord, this monument marks the traditional burial site of King Harald Fairhair, the first king of Norway.

Haugesund rådhus

Completed in 1931, this bright pink neoclassical building was a gift from shipowner Knut Knutsen OAS. It is considered one of Norway’s most significant architectural works of the 20th century.

Vår Frelsers kirke

A neo-Gothic red brick church designed by architect Einar Halleland and consecrated in 1901. It serves as the main parish church for the city center.

Remnants of a German coastal battery from World War II. The site features historical fortifications and offers elevated views of the surrounding landscape.

Skåre kirke

A wooden octagonal church built in 1858. It stands near the city’s northern entrance on a site with historical religious significance dating back to the Middle Ages.
