Explore the rugged terrain of the Northern Japanese Alps through this selection of high-altitude peaks and botanical spaces. The list features prominent summits like Mt. Kurobegoro, known for its massive glacial cirque, and Mt. Shirakimine, famous for its alpine wetlands and seasonal daylilies. These locations offer access to the deep wilderness of the Hida region, ranging from 1,300-variety rose gardens to 2,800-meter peaks overlooking the Tateyama range and the Sea of Japan.

寺地山

A 1,996-meter peak on the border of Toyama and Gifu prefectures, serving as a key waypoint on the trail toward Mt. Kitanomata and the deeper Tateyama Range.

Mt. Kurobegoro

One of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains, this 2,840-meter peak is distinguished by a large, horseshoe-shaped glacial cirque on its eastern flank.
