Ancient Iranian Heritage
This collection highlights the archaeological landscape of Ilam Province, spanning from the Parthian and Sassanid empires to the Qajar dynasty. The list features defensive structures like the Sassanid-era Hezar Dar Castle and Posht Qaleh, alongside more recent administrative seats like the Wali Castle, which now houses an anthropology museum. These sites demonstrate evolving Persian architectural styles, utilizing local stone, gypsum, and brick to create resilient fortifications and urban centers across western Iran's rugged terrain.
