Historic Churches & Chapels

The Jönköping region preserves a diverse range of ecclesiastical architecture, from the 12th-century stone foundations of Kumlaby on Visingsö to the 19th-century Neo-Gothic spires of Sofiakyrkan. Brahekyrkan

Built in the 1630s by Per Brahe the Younger on Visingsö, this church serves as the burial site for the influential Brahe family. It features a rich Baroque interior and was constructed on the site of the medieval Ströja church.

Kumlaby kyrka

A 12th-century Romanesque church on Visingsö famous for its 15th-century murals. Its tower was uniquely modified into a flat platform in the 17th century to serve as an astronomical observatory.

Ljungarums Kyrka

Dating back to the 13th century, this is the oldest surviving church building in Jönköping. The stone structure features a medieval baptismal font and a distinctive wooden bell tower.

Sofiakyrkan
