Onsen and Traditional Baths

Kagoshima Prefecture offers a range of geothermal experiences, from the world-famous steam sand baths of Ibusuki to the tidal springs of Yakushima. This selection includes Hirauchi Kaichu Onsen, which is only accessible during low tide, and the rustic Nemachi Onsen on the volcanic island of Kuchinoerabu-jima. These sites feature diverse mineral compositions and unique settings, including seaside pools and modern facilities like the Onsen Dome.

Natural Steam Sand Bath (SARAKU)

Geothermally heated sand baths located on the Ibusuki coast. Visitors are buried in sand warmed by underground hot spring veins flowing toward the sea.

Kaichu Onsen

Natural hot spring pools located within the rocky shoreline of Yakushima. These baths are only accessible for approximately two hours before and after low tide.

Yudomari hot spring

Open-air seaside baths on Yakushima separated by a simple bamboo partition. The water is mildly alkaline and the facility is available 24 hours a day.

Nemachi Onsen

A remote, traditional hot spring on Kuchinoerabu-jima island. The facility features simple indoor stone baths with highly acidic water from the local volcanic source.

Onsen Dome

Public bathing complex in Kimotsuki featuring a distinctive dome-shaped ceiling, sauna facilities, and multiple temperature-controlled pools.

やけうちの里

Located on Amami Oshima, this facility offers medicinal baths, saunas, and heated pools using local spring water. It is part of the Uken Health Onsen complex.
