Historic Churches and Monasteries

Kolomna preserves a dense concentration of religious landmarks dating from the 14th to the 19th centuries. This collection highlights the city's spiritual history, featuring monasteries founded by St. Sergius of Radonezh and Prince Dmitry Donskoy. Architectural styles range from the rare 14th-century white-stone masonry of the Church of the Conception of John the Baptist to the elaborate 105-kokoshnik roof of St. Nicholas on the Posad and the Neoclassical designs of Matvey Kazakov.

A 1716 church famous for its unique 'fiery' architecture, featuring 105 decorative arches (kokoshniks) arranged in five tiers. It is a rare surviving example of the Russian Pattern style.

Rozdestvo-Bogorodickij Bobrenev muzskoj monastyr

Founded in 1381 to commemorate the Battle of Kulikovo, this monastery is known for its 18th-century cathedral and the 'Singing Wall,' which produced unique acoustic effects.

Cerkov Voznesenia Gospodna

Designed by renowned architect Matvey Kazakov and completed in 1799, this church is a landmark of Russian Neoclassicism, featuring a rotunda and a three-tiered bell tower.

Sobor Uspenia Presvatoj Bogorodicy

The primary cathedral of the Kolomna Kremlin, originally founded in 1379 by Dmitry Donskoy. The current five-domed structure dates to the 1670s and houses a revered 14th-century icon.

Cerkov Zacatia Ioanna Predteci

Located in the Gorodishche district, this is the oldest building in the Moscow region. Its lower white-stone sections date back to the early 14th century.

Cerkov Mihaila Arhangela

The largest church in Kolomna, rebuilt in the 1830s in the Empire style. It features a massive rotunda and houses a rare 14th-century icon of Michael the Archangel.

Cerkov Ioanna Bogoslova

An 18th-century church located near the Kremlin's Ivanovo Gate. It is distinguished by its massive five-tiered bell tower, which remains one of the tallest structures in old Kolomna.

Cerkov Pokrova Presvatoj Bogorodicy

A 19th-century church within the Novo-Golutvin Monastery complex, built in the Neoclassical style with a distinctive blue dome decorated with gold stars.

Cerkov Voskresenia Slovusego

A historic church on the site where Prince Dmitry Donskoy married Princess Eudoxia of Moscow in 1366. The current building reflects 18th-century architectural modifications.

Sobor Troicy Zivonacalnoj

The main cathedral of the Novo-Golutvin Monastery, built in the 1680s. It features five domes and traditional Russian ornamental brickwork characteristic of the late 17th century.

Cerkov Bogoavlenia Gospodna

A late 17th-century parish church located in the former Potters' Sloboda. It retains traditional Muscovite architectural forms, including a small refectory and a tent-roofed bell tower.
