The beach season runs from May to October. July and August are hot and busy. Spring and autumn are good for walking and cycling. The Tuesday and Sunday markets in the old town are popular.

Alcúdia serves Mallorcan food. Try pa amb oli (bread with oil), sobrassada, tumbet, frit and fresh fish at the port. The ensaïmada pastry is the best-known sweet. Local almonds and wines also feature.

Alcúdia is a safe town. In summer, the sun and heat are strong. The beach has lifeguards in season.

The Romans founded Pollentia in 123 BC as the first city on the island. The medieval walls were built in the 14th century, after the Catalan conquest of Mallorca in 1229. The town was fortified against pirates for centuries.

In the 20th century, Port d'Alcúdia developed into one of the main tourist resorts of the island.
