Le Morne Cultural Landscape

Le Morne Cultural Landscape Essentials

This UNESCO World Heritage site centers on a 556-meter basaltic monolith that served as a refuge for runaway slaves, known as maroons. The landscape features the Slave Route Monument at its base, the historic Trou Chenille settlement, and a memorial cross. Beyond its somber history of resistance, the peninsula offers panoramic viewpoints overlooking the Indian Ocean and world-class wind conditions for kitesurfing in the turquoise lagoon.
