Nicosia’s religious landmarks reflect the city's complex history of shifting empires and architectural transformation. This collection includes the Gothic-style Selimiye Mosque, originally a 13th-century cathedral, and the 17th-century Ayios Ioannis Cathedral, noted for its rare 18th-century frescoes. These sites showcase the transition from Lusignan and Venetian rule to the Ottoman era, featuring repurposed bell towers, ornate iconostases, and historic tombs. Most are concentrated within the Venetian walls, representing the capital's layered spiritual heritage.
