Mali Essentials

Mali’s architectural landscape is defined by the earth itself, featuring the Great Mosque of Djenné and the 15th-century Tomb of Askia, both iconic examples of Sudano-Sahelian mud-brick construction. This collection spans the country's diverse history, from the 18th-century Bambara seat of power at the Palais de Biton Coulibaly to the 1960s cultural photography of Malick Sidibé in Bamako. It highlights the scholarly legacy of Timbuktu and the ancient Saharan trade ruins at Tadmkt.
