New Caledonia’s coastline features diverse marine environments, including the UNESCO World Heritage-listed lagoon at Poé and the unique natural pool of Oro Bay. The Isle of Pines is home to several interconnected bays like Kuto and Kanuméra, characterized by fine white sand and columnar pines. These coastal areas provide access to coral reefs and shallow lagoons, while Vao Beach serves as a focal point for traditional Melanesian maritime culture and outrigger canoe navigation.

Plage de Poé

A 17-kilometer stretch of white sand bordering a shallow, turquoise lagoon. Part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, the area is characterized by extensive coral reefs and consistent trade winds.

Baie de Kuto

A sheltered bay on the Isle of Pines featuring exceptionally fine white sand. The calm, deep waters serve as a natural anchorage for visiting vessels.

Plage de Kuto

A crescent of fine white sand on the Isle of Pines, lined with bugny trees and columnar pines. The water remains calm due to the bay's protected geography.

Plage de Kanuméra

Features the sacred Kanuméra Rock connected to the shore by a narrow sandbar. The surrounding waters contain coral heads and diverse marine life near the shoreline.

Plage d'Oro

Known for its natural seawater swimming pool enclosed by a coral reef and a forest of tall pine trees. The tide regularly refreshes the clear lagoon water.

Vao Beach

Situated near the island’s main village, this bay is a primary site for traditional Melanesian outrigger canoes and overlooks the Saint-Maurice monument.
