Reykjavik Museums & Galleries

This selection features Reykjavik's diverse cultural institutions, ranging from the Reykjavik Museum of Photography’s archive of five million images to the Volcano House’s focus on Iceland’s geological history. Contemporary art is represented through i8 Gallery’s conceptual exhibitions and SAFN’s rotating displays of international works, while the Art Ceramic Studio Gallery showcases handcrafted stoneware by local artist Kogga.

Reykjavik Museum of Photography

Located in the Grófarhús building, this museum houses a collection of approximately five million photographs dating from 1860 to the present. It showcases historical and contemporary works by Icelandic and international photographers, documenting the country's social history and landscape.

Volcano House

Volcano House is a geology exhibition in Reykjavík, Iceland, located at Tryggvagata 11.

I8 Gallery

Established in 1995, this contemporary art gallery represents a mix of Icelandic and international artists. It focuses on conceptual art and minimalism, featuring rotating exhibitions and representing prominent figures such as Olafur Eliasson and Roni Horn.

Art Ceramic Studio Gallery

The workshop and gallery of ceramic artist Kolbrún Björgilsdóttir, known as Kogga. Located on Laugavegur, the studio displays handcrafted stoneware and porcelain pieces, often inspired by Icelandic nature and volcanic forms.
