Historic Churches of Perast

Perast’s skyline is defined by its stone belfries and two iconic island sanctuaries. This collection highlights the town’s religious architecture, from the 17th-century St. Nicholas Church with its 55-meter bell tower to the artificial island of Our Lady of the Rocks. These sites reflect the deep maritime heritage of the Bay of Kotor, featuring Baroque facades, Venetian-style art, and the 12th-century Benedictine monastery on St. George Island.

Our Lady of the Rocks

Our Lady of the Rocks is one of the two islets off the coast of Perast in the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro.

Benedictine's monastery

Located on the natural island of Sveti Đorđe, this 12th-century monastery is surrounded by ancient cypress trees and houses a historic graveyard for Perast's nobility.

St. Nicholas Church

Completed in 1616, this church features a 55-meter belfry, the tallest in the Bay of Kotor. The interior treasury holds silver liturgical items and historical maritime relics.

Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Virgin

This 1764 Baroque church serves the town's Orthodox community and features a notable iconostasis and traditional stone masonry characteristic of the region.

Our Lady of the Rosaries

Built in 1678 by the Zmajević family, this church is distinguished by its unique octagonal bell tower, considered one of the most elegant on the Adriatic coast.

St. Mark’s Church
