Mountain Huts & Shelters

This collection features essential high-altitude accommodations across the Romanian Carpathians, ranging from historic stone chalets to remote mountain refuges. Located in key massifs like Bucegi, Retezat, and Ceahlău, these huts provide vital shelter and base camps for reaching iconic summits. Many are situated above 1,500 meters, offering access to glacial lakes, karst formations, and major hiking trail intersections. Facilities vary from basic dormitories to huts with dining services and cable car access.

Cabana Babele

Located at 2,206 meters on the Bucegi Plateau, this central hub sits adjacent to the Babele and Sphinx rock formations. It is accessible via the Bușteni cable car and serves as a major junction for trails toward Caraiman and Omu Peak.

Cabana Sfânta Ana

Situated in the Harghita Mountains near Lake Sfânta Ana, the only volcanic crater lake in Romania. The hut serves as a base for exploring the surrounding volcanic landscape and the Mohos Peat Bog.

Cabana Mălăiești

Set at 1,720 meters in a glacial valley of the Bucegi Mountains, this historic hut is a primary base for ascending the Scara and Omu peaks. It is known for its dramatic alpine scenery and rugged hiking access.

Cab Pastorală Rarău

High-altitude accommodation in the Rarău Mountains, providing proximity to the Pietrele Doamnei rock towers. It offers access to the high pastures and geological formations of the northern Eastern Carpathians.

Cabana Piatra Arsă

Positioned at 1,950 meters on the Bucegi Plateau, this facility is accessible by road via the Transbucegi. It historically served as a high-altitude training center for athletes and connects to the Caraiman Cross trails.

Rădăcini

Basic mountain shelter located in the Vrancea Mountains, providing emergency cover for hikers traversing the remote ridges of the Curvature Carpathians.

Stana

A simple shelter or seasonal shepherd's hut located in the eastern section of the Curvature Carpathians, offering basic protection for long-distance hikers.

Refugiul din Morar

A small mountain refuge situated on the Morar Ridge in the Bucegi Mountains. It serves as a strategic point for technical climbers and experienced hikers navigating the steep, unmarked trails of the massif.

Crăiță

Basic shelter located near the Piatra Craiului National Park, serving as a rest point for those exploring the karst landscape and limestone ridges of the area.

Cabana Dochia

The first alpine hut built in the Eastern Carpathians, located at 1,750 meters on the Ceahlău Massif. It provides direct access to Toaca Peak and the Panaghia rock formation.

Cabana Piatra Singuratică

Located at 1,503 meters in the Hășmaș Mountains at the foot of the Piatra Singuratică (Lonely Stone) limestone outcrop. It is a key stop on the trail between Bălan and the Hășmașu Mare Peak.

Cabana Pietrele

A historic base camp in the Retezat Mountains, established in 1936 at 1,480 meters. It serves as the primary gateway for trails leading to the massif's numerous glacial lakes and major peaks.

Cabana Gențiana

A rustic mountain hut located at 1,670 meters in the Retezat National Park. It is situated on the main trail from Pietrele toward Peleaga Peak and Bucura Lake.

Cabana Vlădeasa

Situated at 1,430 meters in the Apuseni Mountains, this hut is the main starting point for ascending Vlădeasa Peak and visiting the Pietrele Albe (White Rocks) limestone formations.

Cabana Padiș

Located on the Padiș Plateau in the Apuseni Mountains, this hut is a central point for exploring the region's extensive karst systems, including the Cetățile Ponorului cave complex.
