Religious Heritage

Rotterdam’s religious architecture spans from the 15th-century Grote of Sint-Laurenskerk, the city’s sole surviving medieval structure, to the modern Essalam Mosque in Feijenoord. The collection includes the historic Pilgrim Fathers Church in Delfshaven, where the Pilgrims prayed before sailing to America in 1620, and the Russian Orthodox Church of Saint Alexander Nevsky. These sites represent the city's transition from its medieval roots to its status as a diverse metropolis, featuring both traditional Gothic elements and bold contemporary designs.
