Sakhalin Essentials

Sakhalin Island features a unique blend of Japanese architectural heritage and rugged volcanic landscapes. This selection includes the Sakhalin Regional Museum, housed in a traditional 1930s Teikan-zukuri building, and the abandoned nuclear-powered Aniva Lighthouse. Natural landmarks range from the turquoise germanium-rich waters of the Novikov quarry to the dramatic stone arches of Cape Velikan. The list also covers historical engineering like the Devil's Bridge railway spiral and the island's extreme geographical points at Cape Crillon and Cape Elizabeth.
