Sal Essentials

Sal’s landscape is defined by its industrial salt heritage and volcanic geology. This selection features the salt pans of Pedra de Lume, situated inside an extinct crater where high salinity allows for effortless floating. The northern coast offers the Buracona Blue Eye cave and the Terra Boa mirages. In the south, the Santa Maria pier remains a focal point for daily fish trade alongside historic salt scales, while surrounding beaches like Ponta Preta serve as international hubs for windsurfing.

Salinas

Salt evaporation ponds located inside the crater of an extinct volcano. The water's high salt density allows visitors to float easily, similar to the Dead Sea.

Blue eye

A natural pool and cave formation in volcanic rock. Between 11:00 and 13:00, sunlight hits the water at a specific angle to create a glowing turquoise eye effect.

Praia de Santa Maria

A two-kilometer stretch of golden sand known for its wooden pier, where local fishermen land and sell their daily catch directly to residents and restaurants.

Fata Morgana
