Alpine Huts & Refuges

This selection features high-altitude accommodations surrounding San Vito di Cadore, ranging from historic managed refuges to remote emergency bivouacs. These stops are essential for hikers on the Alta Via 1 and those summiting Monte Antelao or traversing the Sorapiss massif. The list includes the 19th-century Rifugio San Marco and the lakeside Rifugio Croda da Lago, alongside basic shelters like Bivacco Slataper, providing strategic rest points across the Ampezzo and Cadore Dolomites.

Rifugio Croda da Lago

Located on the shores of Lake Federa at the foot of the Croda da Lago range, this refuge is a key stop on the Alta Via 1. It is also known as the Gianni Palmieri hut.

Rifugio Pietro Galassi

Situated at 2,018 meters in the saddle between Monte Antelao and Monte Sorapiss, this CAI Mestre section hut serves as a primary base for climbers tackling the Antelao summit.

Rifugio Scotter-Palatini

Positioned at 1,580 meters, this refuge offers views of the Marmarole and Antelao groups. It is accessible via the San Vito di Cadore chairlift or a forest road.

Rifugio San Marco

A historic mountain hut dating back to 1895, located on a grassy ridge at 1,823 meters. It provides a panoramic viewpoint of Monte Pelmo and the Sorapiss group.

Alpe di Senes

A mountain dairy hut located in the meadows below the Sorapiss group, offering basic refreshment and local dairy products.

Rifugio Larin

A mountain refuge located at 1,213 meters, accessible from San Vito di Cadore. It serves traditional local cuisine in a forest setting.

Bivacco Slataper

An unmanaged emergency shelter at 2,600 meters in the upper Fond de la Val. It serves as a strategic point for high-altitude traverses of the Sorapiss group.

Malga Prendera

A seasonal mountain dairy hut located at 2,148 meters along the hiking route between Rifugio Città di Fiume and Rifugio Croda da Lago.

Bivacco Voltolina

A small bivouac situated at 2,086 meters in the Cengia del Banco. It provides essential shelter for mountaineers on the southern side of the Sorapiss massif.
