Seoraksan Essentials

Seoraksan National Park features diverse landscapes ranging from the jagged granite ridges of Ulsanbawi to the serene valley of Biseondae. This collection covers key cultural landmarks like the 14.6-meter Great Unification Buddha and the ancient Sinheungsa Temple. Natural highlights include the multi-tiered Towangseong Waterfall and the unique spherical boulder of Heundeulbawi. For panoramic views without the steep climb, the Seorak Cable Car provides rapid access to the 13th-century ruins of Gwongeumseong Fortress.

Sinheungsa Temple

Sinheungsa, sometimes spelled Shinheungsa, is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.

Great Unification Buddha Statue

A 14.6-meter bronze statue, also known as Tongil Daebul, symbolizing the hope for Korean reunification. It contains three pieces of the Buddha's sari donated by the Myanmar government.

Seol-agsan ulsanbawi

A massive granite formation comprising six jagged peaks. The trail involves a steep ascent of over 800 stairs, leading to panoramic views of the East Sea and the inner mountain range.

Gwongeumseong Fortress

The stone ruins of a 13th-century mountain fortress from the Goryeo Dynasty. Situated on a rugged ridge, the site provides a vantage point over the surrounding peaks and the Sokcho coastline.

Seorak Cable Car

An aerial tramway that transports visitors from the park’s lower valley to the Gwongeumseong Fortress ruins in approximately five minutes, bypassing a strenuous uphill hike.

A large, spherical boulder positioned on a flat rock base in front of Gyejoam Grotto. It is known for its ability to sway when pushed by a person without falling.

A large flat rock formation in the Cheonbuldong Valley characterized by ancient calligraphy carved into the stone. It serves as a major junction for trails heading toward the inner peaks.
