Historic Sites in Mġarr

Mġarr’s landscape is defined by its strategic military architecture and unique religious heritage. This collection features 17th-century Lascaris watchtowers like Għajn Tuffieħa and Nadur, which once formed a vital coastal signaling network. The list also includes the 19th-century Fort Binġemma, a key component of the British-built Victoria Lines. Complementing these fortifications are the modernist Manikata Church, inspired by traditional stone huts, and the historic Chapel of St. Anne, reflecting the area's deep-rooted rural and spiritual traditions.

Fort Binġemma

Part of the 19th-century Victoria Lines, this British fortification was built between 1875 and 1878. It occupies a strategic position on the Binġemma Ridge, designed to defend the island against inland invasions.

It-Torri ta' Għajn Tuffieħa

A coastal watchtower built in 1637 during the reign of Grand Master Lascaris. It overlooks Għajn Tuffieħa Bay and was part of a signaling system connecting the coast to the city of Mdina.

Lippija Tower, also known as Ġnejna Tower, is a small watchtower in Ġnejna Bay, limits of Mġarr, Malta.

Manikata Church

A modernist parish church designed by architect Richard England in 1962. Its unique structure is inspired by the girna, a traditional corbelled stone hut found in the Maltese countryside.

Torri tan-Nadur

Completed in 1637, this Lascaris watchtower sits on a high ridge overlooking Binġemma. It served as a critical relay point for fire and smoke signals between the northern coast and inland fortifications.

Knisja Sant' Anna

A small, traditional chapel located in the hamlet of Żebbiegħ. Dedicated to Saint Anne, it serves as a center for local religious life within Mġarr’s rural landscape.
