Religious Heritage

Stans preserves a diverse collection of Catholic landmarks reflecting centuries of Swiss religious tradition. The centerpiece is the 17th-century parish church of St. Peter and Paul, which retains its original Romanesque tower. The town's spiritual landscape includes the 16th-century Capuchin Monastery of St. Klara and several specialized chapels, such as the historic Galgenkapelle and the hillside Lourdesgrotte. These sites range from grand Baroque architecture to modest pilgrimage stations scattered throughout the valley.
