Historic Churches & Chapels

Tepoztlán’s religious landscape is anchored by the 16th-century Ex-convento de Nuestra Señora de la Natividad, a UNESCO World Heritage site built by the Dominican order. Surrounding this central complex are the historic barrio chapels, each serving as the spiritual and social heart of the town's traditional neighborhoods. These colonial-era structures, such as San Miguel and San Sebastián, showcase unique stone masonry and traditional atriums that continue to host centuries-old patron saint festivals and local community traditions.

The former convent is a still reminder of the colonial past. A splendid building holding amazing treasures and artifacts - do visit!

Iglesia de San Miguel

A colonial-era chapel serving as the focal point of the San Miguel neighborhood. The building features a simple stone facade and a traditional atrium used for community festivals and patron saint celebrations.

Iglesia de la Santisima

Located in the Santísima Trinidad neighborhood, this 16th-century chapel features a distinctive bell tower and a central courtyard. It remains a primary site for local religious observations and community gatherings.

This neighborhood chapel is dedicated to the Three Wise Men. It is characterized by its historic stone masonry, a traditional belfry, and a quiet courtyard typical of Tepoztlán’s colonial barrio architecture.
