Greek Orthodox Heritage

Thasos preserves a significant collection of Byzantine and post-Byzantine religious sites. The Archangelou Michail Monastery, situated on a coastal cliff, houses a relic of the Holy Nail and offers views of the Aegean. In the mountain village of Panagia, several stone-built churches display historic icons and traditional Macedonian architecture. Other notable sites include the 19th-century Monastery of Saint Panteleimon with its adjacent hermit cave and the Monastery of the Assumption near Maries.
