Třeboň Fish Ponds

The Třeboň fish pond system is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a masterpiece of 16th-century landscape engineering. Developed primarily by Jakub Krčín and Štěpánek Netolický, these artificial lakes are interconnected by the Golden Canal (Zlatá stoka), a complex water management network. The system includes Rožmberk, the largest pond in the Czech Republic, and Svět, which sits directly on the 49th parallel. These waters support centuries-old carp farming traditions and provide critical habitats for migratory birds.

Svět

Constructed by Jakub Krčín between 1571 and 1574, this 215-hectare pond sits on the 49th parallel. It features a 12-kilometer educational trail and is located just south of Třeboň's historic center.

Rožmberk Pond

Rožmberk is a fish pond in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, next to the town Třeboň.

Káňov

A large fish pond located north of Třeboň, integrated into the 16th-century Golden Canal water management system.

Opatovický rybník

One of the region's oldest ponds, dating to the 14th century. It is separated from Svět pond by a historic dam and features the Opatovice mill.

Vítek

Fish pond near Nová Hlína known for the historic 18th-century stone bridge with five arches that spans its narrowest point.

Tisý u Břilic

A reservoir and fish pond situated west of Třeboň near the village of Břilice.
