Dams and Reservoirs

Explore the hydroelectric infrastructure of Vanoise National Park, featuring the prominent twin reservoirs of Plan d'Amont and Plan d'Aval in the Aussois mountains. This collection highlights the complex network of water intakes (prises d'eau) and dams that capture glacial meltwater and stream runoff. These engineering sites, connected by miles of underground galleries, offer unique vantage points over the park's rugged alpine terrain and glacial valleys while powering the Maurienne and Tarentaise regions.

A

Le Plan d'Amont

High-altitude reservoir at 2,078 meters, part of the Aussois hydroelectric complex. Its waters are used to generate power for the Maurienne valley.

B

Le Plan d'Aval

Located at 1,948 meters, this reservoir sits just below Plan d'Amont and serves as a primary storage basin for the Aussois power plant.

C

Prise d'Eau de la Calabourdane

Water intake structure collecting flow from the Calabourdane stream to supply the regional hydroelectric network.

D

Prise d'Eau du Charvet

Technical installation designed to capture mountain runoff from the Charvet sector for power generation.

E

Barrage de la Raie

Small dam located in the Tarentaise valley, managing water flow for local hydraulic systems.

F

Barrage de l'Ecot

High-altitude dam situated near the historic stone hamlet of L'Ecot, capturing water from the upper Arc river.

G

Prise d'Eau du Nant

Stream intake facility collecting water from the Nant torrent for diversion into the power grid.

H

Prise d'Eau du Ponturin

Diversion structure on the Ponturin stream, which drains the Peisey-Nancroix valley.

I

Prise d'Eau du Pingon

Technical water capture point located in the high-altitude terrain of the Vanoise massif.

J

Prise d'Eau du Thibaud

Hydraulic installation capturing stream water for the park's interconnected hydroelectric energy grid.

K

Prise d'Eau de Miribel

Alpine water intake located in the Miribel sector of the national park.

L

Prise d'Eau d'Entre-Deux-Eaux

Water collection point located at the confluence of the Torrent de la Rocheure and the Leisse.

M

Prise d'Eau du Grand Pyx

Small-scale hydraulic structure capturing alpine runoff for regional water management.

N

Prise d'Eau du Povaret

Water intake facility located near the Orgère valley entrance.

O

Prise d'Eau du Saint-Bernard

Technical diversion point for mountain streams in the southern Vanoise region.

P

Prise d'eau

Standard water intake structure used for hydroelectric diversion.

Q

Prise d'eau du Nant Putors

Capture point for the Nant Putors stream, contributing to the local hydroelectric management system.
