Historic Churches

Varenna’s religious architecture spans several centuries, featuring the 11th-century Romanesque San Giovanni Battista and the 13th-century San Giorgio. These sites preserve significant medieval frescoes, 16th-century polyptychs, and Baroque stucco work. The collection includes central parish buildings in Piazza San Giorgio and the isolated San Pietro in Ortanella, providing a comprehensive view of the stone masonry and spiritual history of the Lake Como region.
