Lakes and Wetlands

The Vyborgsky District on the Karelian Isthmus contains a dense network of glacial lakes and wetlands, many of which retain their historical Finnish identities. This collection includes Gladyshevskoe Lake, a central part of a nature reserve protecting rare freshwater pearl mussels, and the expansive Muhinskoe bog. These aquatic systems range from deep basins like Pravdinskoye to coastal-adjacent waters like Krasnoe Lake, defining a landscape characterized by peatlands and pine-forested shorelines essential for regional biodiversity.
