Theatres and Cinemas

Yerevan’s cultural center features a high concentration of historic performance venues and cinemas within the central district. This selection includes the Art Deco Moscow Cinema, the Soviet-modernist Komitas Chamber Music House, and the National Academic Theatre. Many of these venues, such as the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall and Nairi Cinema, are housed in landmark buildings designed by prominent architects like Alexander Tamanian, reflecting the city's 20th-century urban development and its long-standing tradition of dramatic and musical arts.

Russian Drama Theater

Established in 1937 and named after Konstantin Stanislavski, this theater specializes in Russian-language productions. It features a repertoire of both classical Russian plays and contemporary international dramas.

National Academic Theatre after Gabriel Sundukyan

Founded in 1921, this is Armenia's oldest modern state theater. Situated in the English Park, the venue hosts large-scale national dramatic productions and is named after the founder of Armenian realistic drama.

Yerevan Dramatic Theatre

Founded in 1967 by Hrachya Ghaplanyan, this theater is known for its stagings of Shakespearean works and contemporary Armenian plays. It is located near the intersection of Mashtots Avenue and Isahakyan Street.

Puppet Theatre after Tumanian

Established in 1935, this venue hosts puppet shows for children and adults. The building also houses a museum featuring a collection of over 200 puppets from various international productions.

Komitas Chamber Music House

"Moscow" cinema theatre summer hall

An open-air amphitheater located behind the main Moscow Cinema building. This Soviet-era modernist structure is used for outdoor screenings and cultural events during the summer months.
