One of the most beautiful fountains in Rome, this marble fountain, located on the top of the Janiculum Hill, was the first major fountain to be built on the right side of Tiber. Its form served as an inspiration for the later Trevi Fountain.

Its construction was completed in 1612 by Pope Paul V. Borghese. This is why there is an eagle and a dragon at the top of the fountain, the animals from the Borghese family crest. Some of the materials used for the works on the fountain came from other major sights in Rome, like the Temple of Minerva.

An entire piano piece was devoted to it by a musical composer Charles T. Griffes it, called "The Fountains of Acqua Paola." Interestingly enough, Griffes never saw the fountain himself as he has never been to Rome in his life.
