Best Beaches

These five beaches along the Wild Atlantic Way in County Kerry represent the diverse coastal geography of the Dingle and Iveragh Peninsulas. The selection includes vast sand spits like Inch and Rossbeigh, which extend kilometers into the Atlantic, and the sheltered, turquoise-water coves of Derrynane. These sites offer specific geological and historical interest, from the dramatic cliff-backed setting of Coumeenoole Bay at the edge of Slea Head to St Finians Bay, which provides direct views of the Skellig Islands and experiences powerful Atlantic swells.

Inch Beach

A five-kilometer-long sand spit protruding into Dingle Bay, featuring an extensive dune system. It served as a filming location for the 1970 movie Ryan's Daughter and is a designated Blue Flag site used for surfing and shore fishing.

Rossbeigh Beach

A seven-kilometer sandy spit located near Glenbeigh on the Ring of Kerry. It forms part of the Castlemaine Harbour Special Area of Conservation and offers views across the water to the Dingle Peninsula.

Coumeenoole Bay

A dramatic beach situated at the westernmost tip of the Dingle Peninsula along the Slea Head Drive. Characterized by high cliffs and jagged rock formations, the area is known for strong undercurrents that make the water unsuitable for swimming.

Derrynane Beach

Located near Caherdaniel, this sheltered beach features white sand and turquoise water. It sits adjacent to the Derrynane National Historic Park, the ancestral home of Irish statesman Daniel O’Connell.

St Finians Bay Beach

A small bay offering direct views of the Skellig Islands. The beach is known for its powerful Atlantic waves, making it a site for experienced surfers, and is located near the Skelligs Chocolate factory.
