Historic Churches and Chapels
This collection highlights the distinctive religious architecture of the Los Lagos and Chiloé regions, characterized by the traditional use of native timber like larch and cypress. Many of these structures, including the UNESCO-listed Church of San Francisco in Castro, demonstrate the Chiloé School of Religious Architecture, blending European styles with indigenous carpentry techniques. From the German-influenced steeples of Puerto Varas to the remote rural chapels of the Carretera Austral, these sites reflect the spiritual heritage of southern Chile.
