Historic Churches and Chapels

This collection highlights the distinctive religious architecture of the Los Lagos and Chiloé regions, characterized by the traditional use of native timber like larch and cypress. Many of these structures, including the UNESCO-listed Church of San Francisco in Castro, demonstrate the Chiloé School of Religious Architecture, blending European styles with indigenous carpentry techniques. The Church of San Francisco, located on one side of the Plaza de Armas of Castro, Chile, is the main Catholic church of Chiloé’s capital.
