Vajdahunyad Castle

Do not be fooled by this castle's appearance. Although it seems to be a historical building, it was only constructed a little more than 100 years ago for the 19th-century millennial exhibition, dedicated to the 1000th birthday of the Hungarian state.

Originally just a temporary structure made of wooden planks and cardboard, the castle is a mixture of several architectural styles and famous Hungarian buildings, all meshed into one. Most prominent are the Romanesque medieval style, as shown on the Church of Jak village, Gothic style, which can be seen on the typical turrets and beams, and Renaissance and Baroque styles.

The castle today serves as a home to the Museum of Agriculture. Its courtyard, however, is free to be explored by visitors even without entering the museum. There is a moat with a drawbridge and even a boating lake, used for skating once it freezes over.
