Castle Hill

This one-kilometre-long district is the oldest part of Budapest, built as early as the 13th century. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Walking through its narrow streets lined with cobblestone, you can enjoy the historic atmosphere of this place, packed with cafés, restaurants and attractions. Although its most famous sight is the royal Buda Castle, you can also find many other unique places to visit here, be it the Trinity Square, the Mary Magdalene Tower or the Jewish Museum.

Due to its elevated position (the hill is at an altitude of 170 meters above the Danube) you will have an excellent view of the city panorama. If you don't fancy the climb up though, you can take the cable railway line, which can be boarded at the Chain Bridge.

The district is very popular with tourists. If you want to avoid the crowds, time your visit for spring or autumn. On a morning in those months, you may even find yourself alone on the streets.
