Alytus District Essentials

Žuvinto biosferos rezervatas

Punios piliakalnis

One of Lithuania’s largest and most historically significant hillforts. Situated on a high terrace at a bend in the Nemunas River, it is traditionally linked to the heroic 14th-century defense of Pilėnai castle.

A major Catholic pilgrimage site featuring a wooden church built in 1825. It houses the renowned painting of the "Sorrowful Mother of God," which is considered miraculous.

Poteronių piliakalnis

Simno Švč. Mergelės Marijos Ėmimo į dangų bažnyčia

Built in 1520, this is the only Renaissance-style church in Lithuania with a cross-shaped floor plan. It is one of the oldest religious buildings in the Alytus region.

Noriūnų miško eglė (aukščiausia Lietuvos eglė)

Standing at over 44 meters, this is the tallest spruce tree in Lithuania. It is located within the Dzirmiškiai forestry of the Alytus woods.

Tarzanija

An adventure park situated on the banks of the Nemunas River. It features various climbing tracks, zip lines, and outdoor activities for different age groups.

Nemunaičio atodanga

A geological natural monument on the right bank of the Nemunas River. It is notable for its rare calcareous tuff formations and spring-fed deposits.

A shallow lake covering approximately 245 hectares near the town of Simnas. It is a popular spot for fishing and is connected to the wider regional wetland ecosystem.
