Ancash Essentials

Ancash contains Peru's highest tropical mountains and some of the Americas' oldest archaeological sites. The Cordillera Blanca range features Nevado Huascarán, the country's tallest peak, and the turquoise waters of Lake 69 and Lake Parón. Historically, the region is defined by the 3,000-year-old stone carvings of Chavín de Huántar and the Chankillo solar observatory. From the Wari ruins of Willkawaín to the retreating Pastoruri Glacier, the area preserves both ancient human engineering and rare glacial landscapes.
