Ancient Lithuanian Hillforts

This collection features ancient hillforts, known as piliakalniai, situated along the scenic bends of the Nemunas River near Birštonas and Prienai. These archaeological sites, including the prominent Vytautas Hill and the twin fortifications at Norkūnai, represent a network of defensive structures dating back to the first millennium and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Visitors can explore earthen ramparts, steep slopes, and plateau remains that once supported wooden castles and settlements, offering insights into early Baltic defensive architecture.

Birštono piliakalnis

Also known as Vytautas Hill, this 14th-century fortification stands on the right bank of the Nemunas River. It was a key defensive site that once supported a wooden castle.
