Figueres
Figueres is a town in the Empordà region of northeast Catalonia, about 40 km from the French border. It is the birthplace of the surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, and it has his museum, the Dalí Theatre-Museum, which is among the most visited museums in Spain.
Besides Dalí, Figueres has a large 18th-century fortress, a lively main boulevard (La Rambla) and a toy museum. It is an easy stop between Barcelona and the Costa Brava or France.

The Dalí museum is crowded in July and August, so book tickets ahead or go early.
