Wooden Churches of Maramureș

Maramureș is home to a unique collection of narrow wooden churches characterized by high steeples and shingle roofs. This list includes eight UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as the 18th-century churches of Budești Josani and Desești, known for their well-preserved post-Byzantine frescoes. These structures showcase traditional blockwork construction and intricate woodcarvings, reflecting the region's religious and cultural history dating back to the 17th century.
