Nationalpark Monfragüe

Monfragüe National Park Essentials

Monfragüe National Park encompasses the confluence of the Tagus and Tiétar rivers in Extremadura. This UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is characterized by Mediterranean scrubland and dramatic quartzite cliffs, most notably the Salto del Gitano. It serves as a critical habitat for the Spanish imperial eagle, black vulture, and griffon vulture. Beyond its ecological significance, the park contains historical landmarks like the Monfragüe Castle and several shelters featuring prehistoric rock art dating back to the Copper and Bronze Ages.
