Josef Váchal Museum

This museum is housed in an 18th-century building that formerly belonged to art collector Josef Portman. Between 1920 and 1924, the artist Josef Váchal transformed the interior into a unique artistic environment, illustrating the friendship between the artist and the owner. The site explores the historical connections between Váchal, Portman, and Ladislav Horáček.

The interior is characterized by extensive mural paintings and hand-carved furniture. These works incorporate a blend of Cubism, Symbolism, and Expressionism, featuring imagery such as mystical creatures, biblical scenes, and zodiac signs. The collection includes intricate wall frescos and carved bookcases, serving as a testament to Váchal's graphic and decorative mastery. The museum is open to the public as a cultural site.
