Norway's national museum for music and musical instruments is housed in a historic manor house. This building served as the childhood home of Peter Wessel Tordenskiold, a prominent 18th-century naval hero. The museum opened to the public in 1952 and is set within a botanical garden spanning 130,000 square meters.
The collection includes musical instruments from across the globe. Permanent exhibitions are located in the main building and a dedicated instrument gallery. Guided tours featuring live music performances are provided, alongside a schedule of various musical events throughout the year.
The site is a designated cultural heritage site and serves as a primary center for musical history and instrument preservation.
