Established on September 24, 1892, this zoological park spans approximately 13 hectares and is managed by the city council. It is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria and houses approximately 1,400 animals representing 315 different species. Historically, the institution was recognized as the home of Snowflake (Floquet de Neu), the only known albino gorilla.
The grounds feature specialized discovery centers and themed habitats, including a large terrarium for reptiles and amphibians, an aviary, and the Sahel Savannah complex. Institutional programs focus on biodiversity, animal welfare, and conservation research. Daily operations include keeper talks and educational activities designed to promote environmental awareness.
The park is open to the public and is wheelchair accessible. Ongoing modernization projects aim to update animal habitats while continuing the institution's commitment to wildlife preservation.
