Established around 1400, this Roman Catholic rectorate is the oldest church in the city. Its origins are closely associated with Vytautas the Great, the Grand Duke of Lithuania. The building has undergone various religious and cultural transformations since the 15th century and remains an active place of worship within the Archdiocese.

The structure is a significant example of Brick Gothic architecture. It is distinguished as the only church in the country to feature a Gothic cross-shaped plan. The historic masonry reflects the architectural styles prevalent in the region during the early 15th century.

Also known as the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the site serves as a rectorate and a significant landmark. It is an active religious site where services continue to be held.
