This contemporary art museum occupies a rehabilitated grain elevator originally built in 1935 by architects Sverre Aasland and Arne Korsmo. Opened in May 2024, the structure serves as a cultural hub and architectural landmark. The conversion project, designed by Mestres Wåge Arkitekter, Mendoza Partida, and BAX Studio, transformed the industrial silo into a complex urban space that has received international recognition for its design.
The facility houses the Tangen collection, an extensive assembly of modernist art donated by Nicolai Tangen. It also incorporates the collections of the Sørlandet Art Museum, featuring a wide range of Nordic works. Fixed installations include Gjerdeløa, alongside rotating exhibitions and diverse art collections.
The center functions as a venue for live events and guided tours. The site combines historical industrial architecture with modern cultural programming, offering a variety of exhibitions focused on contemporary and modernist movements.
