This National Nature Reserve is characterized by a unique landscape of peat bogs, marshes, and approximately 200 mineral springs. Notable features include bubbling mofettes, which are gaseous carbon dioxide springs, and significant layers of diatomaceous earth. The area supports specialized salt-loving vegetation and is frequently compared to Icelandic landscapes due to its distinct geological activity.
A 1.2 km educational nature trail traverses the reserve, utilizing wooden boardwalks to navigate the moorland and pass various informative stations. An onsite information centre serves as the entry point, offering details on local nature and landscape protection. The site also features a geological park and a museum dedicated to the region's natural history.
The facility includes a pavilion with life-size prehistoric animal models and dinosaurs, alongside an animal rescue station. Established on November 7, 1964, the reserve protects a rare ecosystem in the Eger Basin and is open for public exploration.
