Almoravid Koubba

Local nameKoubba Almoravides
LocationMarrakesh, Morocco

The oldest building in Marrakesh and the last example of Almoravid architecture in the city dates back to the 12th century. Adjacent to Almoravid mosque which no longer exists, this building was used before prayer for ablution, therefore there was an interesting system of toilets and showers. Note also the beautifully carved cedar ceiling and the traditional motives of palms and pine cones.
